About David

David Quick was a writer and photographer for The Post and Courier for 30 years. He generally covered local governments, health and fitness and, in the latter years of his career, home and garden features — where he could write about one of his passions, sustainable living lifestyles.

His interests in gardening gravitates toward native and edible gardening, permaculture and tree planting.

He agrees strongly with his icons, including as David Attenborough, Doug Tallamy and Robin Wall Kimmerer, that public and private landowners and stewards must radically return to more native and natural land management if we are to curb mass extinctions, the climate crisis and even human civilization.

Since walking away from journalism in 2018, due to restrictions for being an active volunteerism, aka “activism,” he has volunteered for the Center of Birds of Prey in Awendaw, the Green Heart Project, Surfrider, Waterkeeper and the local Democratic Party, among others.

He has organized Arbor Day tree plantings the past three years. And he ran for a SC House seat in 2020 but lost.

He is a current founding board member of the Charleston Climate Coalition and the Friends of Coastal South Carolina.
