About Us

The Charleston Horticultural Society (CHS Hort) was organized in December 1999 by Charlestonians who recognized a need for a horticultural resource center. CHS Hort is an outgrowth of the Charleston Garden Festivals that were held from 1994 through 1998. Charleston Horticultural Society was granted 501 (c)3 non profit status in 2001.

With membership open to all, CHS Hort has grown to more than 1,300 individual and business/organization members with extensive educational outreach programs that include our signature lecture series, distinctive garden tours, seasonal workshops, Plantasia, and our CHS Trident Tech Scholarship program among other programs.

Our Vision

At Charleston Horticultural Society, our vision is rooted in our deep commitment to the well-being of the area and the Earth as a whole. We strive to create a sustainable and vibrant environment where the beauty of nature flourishes, and all individuals can connect with and appreciate the wonders of horticulture. By fostering a sense of community, promoting education, and embracing innovative practices, we aim to preserve and enhance the unique ecological heritage of Charleston and its surrounding regions. Our vision extends beyond our immediate surroundings, as we recognize the interconnectedness of all ecosystems on our planet. Through our efforts, we aspire to be a catalyst for positive change, inspiring others to embrace sustainable practices and work towards a harmonious coexistence with nature.
