Beating the Heat in Your Garden with Jen Stringer

Celebrated Charleston garden designer Jen Stringer, known throughout downtown Charleston for her stunning windowbox and containers, will offer her unique perspective on how revive a garden suffering from the summer heat and how survive and overcome the challenges of gardening throughout Charleston’s hottest months.

Hypertufa: Building a Beautiful Herb Pot with Margaret Mansour
Wednesday August 22 – 10:00am – 12:00pm
Hypertufa if a combination of several natural elements which combined can create a very sturdy garden vessel. From pots to bird baths and stepping stone to yard art, this unique organic medium is versatile for many garden uses. Learn how to build a small herb pot from a basic recipe and how to care for it at home. This is a hands on class and will get messy so bring your own rubber gloves and dress accordingly. (Max: 16)
Garden My French Cocktail Class with Sarah Martin & Hallie Arnold

One of our most popular and recurring workshops over the past years has been our boozy and hilarious cocktail hour with mixologists and funny pair Sarah Martin & Hallie Arnold. Join us this summer for their latest concoction, Garden My French, an evening of sampling and learning about delicate french style cocktails featuring your late summer herbs. A class NOT to be missed. Must be 21 + to participate.

Clay Bead Jewelry Design with Stacy & Selma Andrews
Thursday August 23 – 10:00am – 2:00pm
Returning after last year’s popular workshop! Design and create your own lightweight, unique and eye-catching polymer clay bear jewelry. Using a “millifiori” technique (meaning “thousand flowers”) originally a Venetian glass working technique combining thin rods of different colors which are folded, sliced and layered in a collage to form an intricate pattern art work. This is a beginner class to introduce working techniques with polymer clay including conditioning, mixing, folding and basic construction of “canes”.
Polymer clay and basic tools will be provided. Bead will need to be baked (will be done during the workshop) and finished then can be hung on a chain, mounted as jewelry or just art! We’ll provide a polymer clay kit (roller, cutter etc), pre-conditioned clay, heart ornament, simple chain and instructions. We also will provide (to share) patterned canes already completed to use. (Max. 16)

Pressed Flower Design with Lauren Whitsides of Southern Bloom Press
Thursday August 23 – 6:00pm – 8:00pm
This workshop will be centered on making your own piece of pressed flower art. The workshop will feature a hydrangea flower design, a favorite among Charleston locals. Basic flower pressing techniques will be demonstrated and taught at the beginning. Then the fun begins – creating your own piece of art!
Your workshop ticket includes everything you will need to create your own pressed flower art design. No art or pressed flower experience needed for this workshop. Pressed hydrangea flowers and leaves, as well a frame for your design will be provided. Please note hydrangea colors will vary depending on what is available and in season. Most likely, blue, purple and green hydrangeas will be provided to give attendees a color option. Keep your piece of art for yourself or gift it to someone you love! (Max. 16)

The CHS Educational Classroom is located in our offices at 46 Windermere Blvd. in the South Windermere Shopping Center. Turning into the shopping center from Folly Road follow S. Windermere Blvd down along the strip of shops where Starbucks is located. Our offices are the very last business on the right with a green awning. We are located across from the West Ashley Library at S. Windermere.
There is limited parking in front of our office but we recommend parking in the large lot in front of the library. Please refrain from parking in the back of the building as it is saved for employees of the shopping center.
To ensure our classes start on time and out of respect for everyone in attendance, we ask that you make every effort to arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of the scheduled class time.
Class Substitution Clause:
If you cannot attend the class you signed up for, please let us know in advance and we will try to accommodate you into another class of your choice. You cannot substitute a class for another class without advance notice to the office at 843.579.9922 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are not on the class roster list upon arrival, you will be expected to pay before entering the class.
If you suddenly are unable to attend please call our offices at 843.579.9922 ahead of the scheduled class so we can plan accordingly. Per our policy, class fees are only refundable with at least a 24 hour notice.
