Windermere Community Garden
Windermere Community Garden
Ever wonder who is responsible for the beautifully maintained gardens on the grounds of our office home here at the South Windermere Shopping Center? It’s cared for and maintained by dedicated, passionate CHS gardeners such as yourself during our monthly Windermere Garden Work Day featuring dedicated volunteers and CHS members sponsored by Charleston Horticultural Society. We meet every third Saturday of the month with local gardening experts who guide our volunteers and help us form a monthly plan for weeding, pruning and general beautification.

ABOUT THE WINDERMERE GARDEN PROJECT
This collaborative and successful partnership began originally between the Charleston Horticultural Society (CHS), the Charleston Parks Conservancy (CPC) and the City of Charleston, with the lasting objective of providing Windermere Boulevard and the community at large with a colorful, long blooming alternative to this highly visible space.
What started as a beautification project has become one of the most beautiful community gardens in the Lowcountry. Both Phase I and Phase II were completed over the course of only two weekends – November of 2007 and June of 2008 – when nearly 50 dedicated CHS volunteers and supporters gathered to create a high impact, low water requirement perennial, grass and shrub elements to the ever-popular South Windermere Shopping Center main boulevard median beds.
This public greening enhancement project has won the acclaim of local neighbors, shopping center merchants and hundreds of customers and employees who frequent the center on a daily basis. Charleston Horticultural Society is now the sole proprietor of the garden and has developed a core of volunteers and supporters who perform the required preparation, planting, maintenance and resources required.
