Jennifer Stringer Obi is a horticulturist, landscape designer, and owner of Living Colors LLC, specializing in container gardening and seasonal color. Jen received her Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston in ’96 and worked at SC Dept of Natural Resources for a few years before changing careers. In 2000, she worked at Hyams Garden Center where she learned about identification and care of different flowering plants. The following year she worked at Mulberry Plantation tending to the private gardens and greenhouses learning of design and propagation from Beverly Rivers who became her mentor and friend.
Jen inherited her passion for gardening at a young age, learning about plants while weeding her Grandmother’s garden next door. This is a family passion shared with her Great Grandmothers, Grandmothers and Mother. What started as a hobby turned into a business when Jen opened Living Colors, LLC in 2004. She received an Associate’s degree in Agriculture, along with certificates in landscape design and management from Trident Technical College in 2005. Her work has been featured in a range of settings from private gardens to boutique hotels in historic downtown.
