Join us Wednesday, April 17 as we step into the captivating world of historic gardens with the one and only Karen Prewitt—garden sleuth, storyteller, and the official biographer of legendary landscape architect Loutrel Briggs.
Karen isn’t just a past president of The Garden Club of Charleston (though that’s impressive enough!). In 1990, she dove into a treasure trove of over 1,000 original Briggs drawings, lovingly catalogued them for the S.C. Historical Society, and wrote the definitive article on his work—still the foundation for everything we know about Briggs today.
The Briggs family took notice and officially passed the torch—naming Karen his biographer and granting her the copyright to Charleston Gardens. Talk about earning your garden stripes! Her passion for garden history blossomed during her time living abroad, especially during the two years she spent soaking in the beauty and history of Italy.
