Join local garden enthusiast and rosarian Beth Ilderton for a special Lunch & Learn workshop that blends rich history, Southern charm, and hands-on gardening inspiration.
In the early 1800s, something magical happened right here in Charleston. A rice planter named John Champneys crossed a China rose (Parson’s Pink China) with a fragrant European musk rose, creating a brand-new class of repeat-blooming roses—what would become known as the Noisette rose. His original creation, the beloved ‘Champneys’ Pink Cluster’, marked the start of a rose revolution in the New World.
Building on Champneys' work, French horticulturist Philippe Noisette received seedlings and further cultivated the line, introducing the world to the now-iconic ‘Blush Noisette’—a delicately fragrant, pale pink climber that’s become a Southern garden favorite.
