CHS Garden Study: The McGee Garden
Sunday October 14th
2:30pm – 5:00pm
SOLD OUT

If you struggle with keeping your perennial border full of color, texture and form from May to November in our complicated growing zone, our new CHS Garden Study workshop may be just what you need!

Join us in legendary garden guru Patti McGee’s three year old Sullivan’s Island garden to learn how a lawn was transformed into three deep mixed borders that awaken in late Spring. Find out what plants and bulbs Patti uses to bridge the December to April time frame when much of the plantings are dormant. Then learn which plants have proven themselves to be reliable anchors as the beds fill gradually with emerging perennials but also are supplemented, as needed, following the ravages from floods, hurricanes and the odd winter freeze.

The Garden Study will include a brief presentation of photos and plant lists for a month by month (April to October) survey of the garden beds so you can construct a timeline of which plants show up when and how their spaces are managed as their moment fades.

This rare opportunity to learn in one of the south’s most celebrated private gardens will also include light refreshments followed by a ┬átour of the garden with the three gardeners who assist Patti in bringing her vision to life as well as a chance to speak with Patti herself. These experienced gardeners will be prepared to answer any questions as to plant identification, soil and plant health management as well as the week by week needs of the borders.

This event is limited to 30 guests and is on a first come, first serve basis.

Please, no holds. Payment is due upon time of order. No refunds after Monday Oct. 8th.
